City of Hope Kaplan Clinical Research Building Basement Lab Expansion
Lionakis has completed a project at the Beckman Research Institute of The City of Hope, southern California’s premiere comprehensive cancer center. The project consisted of a conversion of the basement of the Kaplan Clinical Research Building from office space into an expansion of research laboratory facilities for Jianhua Yu, PhD. Dr. Yu’s growing research program is within the Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, Hematologic Malignancies Research Institute.
The improvements total approximately 4,000 square feet, and include open lab space, tissue culture rooms, a large conference room, and other support spaces. The open lab features movable modular lab benches that are plugged into ceiling panels to get power, data, lab vacuum, and compressed air. The plan of the lab is thereby very flexible for future reorganization. Tissue culture rooms contain BioSafety Cabinets, cell culture incubators, and other supporting equipment. An Equipment Room houses a large free-standing autoclave, glassware washer, cryogenic freezer and several -80-degree freezers.
