OncoCyte Diagnostic Laboratory Renovation
Oncocyte is a precision diagnostics company with a mission to improve patient outcomes by developing a family of tests that provide personalized insights to inform critical decisions in the care of cancer patients.
The company relocated to a two-story spec office building in the Irvine Spectrum and hired Lionakis to design their CLIA certified laboratories on the building’s first floor. (The corporate offices occupy the top floor.) CLIA certification applies to any laboratory which performs laboratory testing on specimens obtained from humans for the purpose of providing information for health assessment and for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease.
Originally planned and submitted to the city for plan-check as a full floor build-out of approximately 11,000 square feet, Lionakis helped Oncocyte reduce the scope of the improvements when the company’s business model dictated a more modest expansion.
The project included new HVAC equipment on the building roof, and the addition of an emergency generator. A feature of the labs is the movable laboratory furniture supplied with power via cables to ceiling panels allowing for flexibility in organizing each space. Services included detailed coordination of the scientific equipment on each laboratory bench, as well as gaining approval through the Orange County Fire Authority of the company’s hazardous chemicals used in the space.
Sitework included identifying and fixing deficiencies in the building’s accessible parking and path-of-travel into the building.
